Terms of Service
SideVenture by OctoKnott Effective date: September 26, 2026
Welcome to SideVenture. These Terms are an agreement between you and OctoKnott ("we", "us") about your use of the SideVenture app (the "App"). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
1. Who can use SideVenture
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country, to use the App. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you confirm that a parent or guardian has agreed to these Terms.
2. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity on your account. Tell us promptly at contact@octoknott.com if you think your account has been misused. If you use an anonymous account, your progress may be lost when you sign out or delete the app.
3. Quests and your safety
SideVenture suggests real-world activities, including walks, exercise, outdoor trips, social challenges and learning tasks. Quests are optional suggestions, not instructions.
- Only do what is safe and appropriate for your health, skills, surroundings and local laws.
- Before starting physical activity, consider your fitness and any medical conditions. If you are unsure, consult a healthcare professional.
- Respect private property, other people's privacy and consent, traffic rules, and local regulations. Never trespass, and never put yourself or others at risk to complete a quest.
- Check weather, daylight and conditions before outdoor quests. Tell someone where you are going when that is sensible.
- Timers are flexible by design. There is never a reason to rush or take risks.
You take part in any activity at your own risk. To the extent permitted by law, OctoKnott is not responsible for injury, loss or damage arising from activities you choose to carry out.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the App for anything unlawful, harmful or abusive;
- harass, threaten or impersonate others, or send unwanted challenges or messages;
- attempt to hack, reverse-engineer, disrupt or overload the App or its services, except where the law allows this;
- use bots, cheats or exploits to manipulate progress, achievements or purchases.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
5. SideVenture Pro and payments
- Optional subscription. SideVenture Pro is an optional paid subscription that unlocks the features described on the in-app upgrade screen.
- Billing. Payments are charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period, at the then-current price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Managing and cancelling. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
- Free trials. If a free trial is offered, any unused part of it ends when you purchase a subscription. You will be charged when the trial ends unless you cancel beforehand.
- Refunds. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their refund policies. We cannot issue refunds for store purchases directly.
- Price changes. Prices may change, with notice as required by the app stores and applicable law.
- Restoring. You can restore an active subscription on another device from the upgrade screen by choosing "Restore Purchases".
6. Virtual items
XP, levels, HP, streaks, achievements and titles are in-app features with no monetary value. They cannot be exchanged for money or transferred, and they may change as we improve the game.
7. Our content and your content
The App, its design, quest texts, artwork and code belong to OctoKnott or its licensors and are protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App for your own non-commercial purposes.
Content you create, such as your display name, notes and to-do items, remains yours. You are responsible for it, and it must not infringe anyone's rights.
8. Third-party services
The App relies on third-party services, including Apple, Google (Firebase), RevenueCat and OpenStreetMap. Their own terms and policies apply to your use of those services. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
9. Availability and changes
We work to keep SideVenture reliable, but we do not promise it will always be available, error-free or unchanged. We may add, modify or remove features. Because progress is stored on your device, uninstalling the App or losing your device may permanently delete it.
10. Disclaimer
To the extent permitted by law, the App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. These include fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, OctoKnott will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data or progress. Our total liability for any claim relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Ending these Terms
You can stop using the App at any time, and delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing contact@octoknott.com. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, or if the law requires it. Sections that by their nature should survive, such as sections 3, 6, 10 and 11, continue to apply after the Terms end.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will change the effective date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the App. If you keep using the App after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Turkey, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. This does not take away any mandatory consumer protections that apply in your country of residence.
